At age 44, it's hard to imagine how the younger ages could possibly compete. I had very shitty teenage years, but the 25 years of legal adulthood have SO much more hardship.

Tough question. My life is so much harder now than it was before children but the payoff is so much greater that the hardness seems like less of a sacrifice than each discrete hard thing I dealt with before
