I feel like people are mistaking a directional belief for an objective belief. It's true that CW underrates the possibility of a lab leak, but I think zoonotic transmission is still more likely on the whole (maybe by like 70/30).

It depends on what research lab means. A lab collecting a wild sample that escapes possibile. A lab created virus deliberately released is not credible to me. A lab created virus accidentally escaping is a low probability. There is no credible evidence for these theories.

I saw some research that there was a worldwide 'bad cold' that was likely partly the progenitor virus. Wouldn't surprise me if someone went off-script and tried to see if it could infect animals in the lab. I don't think it was nefarious intent.

Lots of recent evidence from sampling wild bats and looking at coronaviruses in the wild from the 80s to present makes a zoonic original completely plausible. The genome itself statistically "natural". There's really no direct evidence for a lab leak.
