I guess it depends whether you mean as individuals or as groups. My empathy is probably equal as individuals but significantly more as groups since there are far far more poor people. Also, I get the impression a lot people read 'empathy for' as 'sympathy for'.

That is a *loaded* way of posing the question: first person, expressed/manifested preferences... you already know what the result will be. I suggest asking "who gets treated worse / dehumanised more by society"
