A harder question might be: would the world be overall better off if cultures that had discovered gun powder never tried to make contact with cultures that hadn’t, or if things had gone how they in fact did?

For the love of God, man. Colonialism wasn't a thing where one country came in and decided to claim the land and change the government. It was a centuries long process of violence, exploitation, destruction of exiting societies and cultures. This engendered massive resistance.
