It never occurred to me till now that I didn't. I do remember not being able to read though.

I remember telling my dad he was lying to me when he said he was reading bc he wasn't reading out loud, but reading to himself. The teachers hadn't taught us it was possible to read silently, I thought you had to say the words outloud.

I remember being so mad at the misshapen period with a tail. "Mom, why did they get the period wrong?"

All memories came back when I started learning Japanese or music reading as an adult. Humbling experience.
