So, live knowing deep down nothing you do means anything and there is no true joy but only distraction, or live in a reality with only the worst external suffering that comes along with it. Both sound like very different versions of hell.

I don’t know about that, some might be happy with a simple hedonistic existence. If the island was full of delicious food and beautiful women that might be a fine place for Hitler to retire. He could even take up his old hobby of painting nature watercolours.

“Nobody else knows this” beautiful island. Both options have the same outcome in terms of perception by the public/history. idc about needless suffering. all I care about is that the future is better than the past.
