One argument is that shorter lifespans would spur moral progress relative to economic progress. Moral progress tends to be made one funeral at a time as older generations with older morals die. That difference is a huge lever on the far future.

I mean obviously twice the lifespan, right? Why have more people if you can have fewer people who live longer and die less. What would even be the argument for the opposite side?

Does half lifespan imply half length for all biological processes? Pregnancy, brain, and body matures twice as fast? Raising children for 20 years would take all of ones adult life at half lifespan. Very little personal development or freedom in adulthood. Huge social implication
