It was interesting, because this kind of bimodal question says something about not only how you read yourself, but how you read the room

yeah, I realize in hindsight I didn't make it clear enough that we were doing mean, not gradual ranking. Maybe I was clear by my standards, but if I do this again in the future I'm really gonna spell it out slow for anything vaguely controversial.
If it’s the mean rather than the median, the right strategy is for one person to take one for the team and go full NN so everyone else can go to the other group. Sacrificial self-scapegoating
