one of the most ominous papers i've read, where ppl training AI to discover ways to improve human health instead go "hm, i wonder what happens if we just flip the direction of training from 'help' to 'hurt'"

There are a body of scholarly papers written about the potential of AI to be an existential threat. The people who are concerned are not morons, and are often high profile tech billionaires like Gates and Musk and high profile scientists like (previously) Hawking.

Knowing a bit about ML and especially about linear algebra, I think there are just a lot of low-hanging fruit. We haven't had any serious development of chemical weapons with modern tools (at least publicly).
