I think that communism wouldn't be bad to drag a third world country back up on its feet into modernization. The problem would be relaxing the governmental authority when the country gets more advanced and people have universal standards of living above poverty.

Caveat: communism as Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot et al. envisioned them: god no. But *democratic* socialism can work on at least state level. And communism can work on very small scales.
