probably the most growth i've made in understanding things is learning to notice in myself when i do not actually deeply understand something, even when there's a lot of incentive to tell myself I am in fact someone who understands the thing

A good heuristic I use is: I know nothing. Since it's false, it's hard at first. After that it's really useful.
