I do think higher IQ (or g factor or whatever) increases the chances of financial success. I also think IQ is genetically heritable. I was sorta surprised when I was thinking about how many smart friends I have came from rich parents, but maybe I shouldn't be!

That's true in the US and it's because education needs money. It's not like this in Germany (to a lesser extent, at least). Yeah, some people are autodidacts, but this is also highly influenced by education & parents' education status.

High IQ is necessary but not sufficient to be successful for multiple generations. Does your family have addiction, mental health or adhd issues?

Also a lot of fantastically wealthy men have fathered large numbers of penniless children. Genghis Khan is maybe the ultimate example, but a particular variant of this activity was super common in the US up through about the mid 19th century.
