"Communism" could refer to either "the basic idea of Communism" or "the set of all actions taken in the name of Communism". Positioning an ideology against an event without specifying what exactly you're trying to measure is going to severely confound your results.

even though the numbers were larger i think what goes into a being a "horror" isn't just numbers alone
communism may have lead to more deaths (which was worse) from mismanagement and terrible policies, but there's something much more sinister about gas chambers

Entire family endured both. The Holocaust killed 6 million Jews but communism across the entire world killed close to 40 million people (including many Jews). The Holocaust was worse by intent.
