Mad About Vaccines isn't a cause I want to see succeed (I am very frustrated at the misinformation ppl I know are believing blindly), but Don't Govern My Body is. "this is for the public good, there are externalities" is what people use to control my body from sex work.

I also think I'd be more sympathetic to this attempt to make ppl do things to their own bodies if I had greater trust in the government to make wise, principled choices about it. But I really, really don't.

This is true! I think it's very silly, the inconsistent standard and it's good to point this out. But I don't think it changes the core point; I think peoples governance over their own bodies probably shouldn't depend on how consistent or rational they are. I think.

Well, externalities problems take 2+ parties, right? As D. Friedman observes, it's not always obvious who the least-cost-avoider is. Arguably, it's the unvaccinated in the pandemic case. Sex work may be different.

Also, lots of persuadable people tend to clench in resistance when told "do as I say". We might well have had higher vaccination rates with a patient, respectful, honest campaign of persuasion.
