An unhinged man, personally wronged by a taxi driver, shoots several taxi drivers. He explicitly states that taxis are an abomination. Most of the taxi drivers he shoots are middle-eastern, the predominant ethnicity of taxi drivers in his area. You'd view him motivated by:
  • hate of taxi drivers
    77%
  • hate of middleeastern ppl
    4.9%
  • hate of both
    18.1%

i think this is an error of turning generalities into specifics; "in general", things like searching up asian porn or people looking for asian girlfriends is a thing, but this is an *individual instance* with *no evidence* of fetishization;

like, 'in general' black people tend to be poorer in the US, but we consider it pretty racist to assume any given black person is poor if they e.g. walk into a high end store

Exactly. The problem with stereotypes isn’t their mere existence, or that they are generally false (they are generally accurate) but that people incorrectly apply the general to the specific - apply a stereotype to an individual.
