This seems like just straight up bad marketing. I'd guess most parents want to feel some control over their kid's future, and getting their kid to work harder is a way to do this. Taking that away would make more parents feel helpless than empowered.

Lowell & the recalls are primarily a Chinese-American story in SF. The Chinese community is so engaged because it's their American Dream being stolen. People have no idea the sacrifices they make, the centrality of this issue.

RACIST is expecting less because of someone's race. Putting someone in a position that they can't handle so they fail. Assuming that someone can't make it on merit because of their race. All these combine to subtly tell certain people that they're inferior because of their race🤬
