I think learning programming as you need it in order to study people and sex is at least as good as learning it because you love abstractions, universal rules, and building stuff, if not better.

To me, the appeal was obvious, even from age of 6 (and I'm an old - this meant writing BASIC programs and saving them on cassette tapes).
