We shouldn't trade safety for convenience. Especially not with something that is taking over 3000 lives every day - *preventable* deaths. We don't care about the common good, we just don't want the convenience of our lives interrupted by lowering the maximum speed limit to 30mph.

I assumed you were talking about the US. Most places with high rates of traffic fatalities struggle with basic infrastructure and enforcement; a speed limit wouldn't save many lives in India, Brazil or Vietnam.
