We shouldn't trade safety for convenience. Especially not with something that is taking over 3000 lives every day - *preventable* deaths. We don't care about the common good, we just don't want the convenience of our lives interrupted by lowering the maximum speed limit to 30mph.

I think, if you look at the data you are citing by region, the safety both of the vehicles and environment around the vehicles plays a significant role in both driver and pedestrian safety. I understand your point but this type of comparison is disingenuous.

Climate change and pollution are orders of magnitude larger problems. 30mph isnt slow enough to protect pedestrians. Faster can be quite safe for most vehicles. Cars are most fuel efficient at highways speeds. So, do you want the cough or the impact to kill them?
