Isn't it super common for kids from people's first marriages/families to feel neglected when their parents have kids with a new person? Obviously some parents manage to gracefully blend families, but a *lot* stop paying attention to the first kids.

Yes, and I do think the structure of most poly relationships is more comparable to having two families rather than two kids. Something as basic as pooling all essential resources dramatically changes the nature of a relationship/family.

Generalizing that as: in mono relationship I can add X kids and it doesn't add X primary decision makers. But if I added X partners it adds X primary decision makers, which makes each decision X^y harder.
