The rationality community definitely isn't perfect, but it's really, really good. Rationalists are one of the few groups that are both really smart and actively practice looking past their own ego to find truth. I can't express how much beaming appreciation I have for this.

Rationalists are wary of passing judgment based on tribal moves, they're highly accepting of strangeness, they are constantly looking for how they are wrong, they regularly practice making predictions to check exactly how wrong they are. This is so admirable.

I want the future of humanity to have integrated this practice (among others! I think rationality itself is not complete). And it is a *practice*, much as you might practice an instrument - mistakes are made, and you might not be very good, but it's still an earnest attempt.

I'm not a part of that community, but arguably, am rationalist-adjacent. The mindful *practice* of rationality is great for a lot of the reasons you've noted, but best thing might be that it actually makes me *happier*.

I keep finding myself in front of rationalists and it confuses me, feel like I simultaneously feel threatened and attracted to all the takes I see in the space. I definitely see the appeal though.
