The rationality community definitely isn't perfect, but it's really, really good. Rationalists are one of the few groups that are both really smart and actively practice looking past their own ego to find truth. I can't express how much beaming appreciation I have for this.

Rationalists are wary of passing judgment based on tribal moves, they're highly accepting of strangeness, they are constantly looking for how they are wrong, they regularly practice making predictions to check exactly how wrong they are. This is so admirable.

I want the future of humanity to have integrated this practice (among others! I think rationality itself is not complete). And it is a *practice*, much as you might practice an instrument - mistakes are made, and you might not be very good, but it's still an earnest attempt.

lesswrong.com is a good start for community interaction, and 'basics' you can find for free here, but you can also buy it in book form. lesswrong.com/tag/rationalit

My general view and experience is that someone telling me how rational they are is a huge red flag and is highly correlated with a lack of subject knowledge or engagement with complexity

Everybody regrets the term 'rationalists' as the name that stuck, but it's here now.

The rationality community like America: lofty and commendable ideals, with the actual reality often failing to live up to those ideals.

Such a beautiful message! I've discovered the power of rationality & evidence-based beliefs years ago and it made such a big change in my life!
Since then, I've focused on learning more about human psychology and the world we live in and it's been a challenging, wonderful ride.
