Lots of people on the right seem to think the movie is a defence of expert rule. It’s so obvious it is not. Nor is the president supposed to be Trump or a Republican

YES! Thank you for that. You just perfectly summed up why the movie felt so off putting. It's like it presumes that it's easy to tell who's on the true side of science. Reading that felt like picking out a fleck of meat that had been wedged in my teeth for 16 hrs. Finally!
