I wonder if this would change as a perceived description of identity vs. lifestyle.

Not in a way that I would ever act on. I don't believe more than two people can create a permanent stable life together (which is important as one gets older).

I have been in some relationships. I'm lucky to have an easy time dealing with jealousy but I can feel fulfilled in monogamous relationships just fine.
