The answer to the first question, is it useful, is for me, extremely. I am an INTP, the first time I read the description, at age 19, I cried. It was the first time I ever felt that there were others like me, that understood me. Many INTP's react similarly, but most types don't.
INTJ, also very similar experience.
And there are massive, p<.00000000001 correlations about MBTI among people in particular communities observed all the time, e.g. among WaitButWhy readers. If MBTI is pseudoscience, so is every medical study ever.
