I’m both horrified and fascinated by the astrology blowback. Astrology is clearly bullshit, and I’m confused by why that would be controversial. Did a bunch of people adopt the astrology religion when I wasn’t looking? If so… why?

It's because more people are atheists and no, astrology doesn't "fulfill their need for irrationality previously fulfilled by religion", the same irrationality that caused them to be atheists causes them to believe in astrology.

Empirically false, atheism and obvious nonsense (astrology, belief in ghosts, sex differences denialism and wokeness in general etc.) clusters together.
Most irrational people refuse the claim, that's obviously what'd we expect of "nothing irrational about refusing it" claims...

By DEFINITION religion isn't empirically anything. You cannot prove the existence of a deity and that doing certain things pleases them.

I think is claiming that empirically we find that atheism and belief in stuff like ghosts correlate.
(Mind you, I find this an incredibly bizarre empirical claim & it's the first time I've heard it. Absolutely the opposite of my experience. But maybe it changed?)

believing in god usually means you believe souls go to heaven/hell; it seems like that would dampen belief in anything of non-religious spiritual flavor (new age, ghosts, woo), thus resulting in a positive correlation of woo beliefs and atheism. would be my theory!
earlier today i looked up which political party was more likely to believe in astrology, and it was democrats by far. this was confusing to me until i realized - oh, republicans are christians
