I'd bet that the high earners of each individual area are more likely to vote conservative, but major cities having higher wages and cost of living while also being majority Dem means that nationwide the average dem makes more.

The educated class, which includes doctors, educators, lawyers & tech workers in places like CA, tends to lean left. The rural and rust belt working class leans right. Clear difference in earning power. This has changed a bit since my childhood, when unions were all left leaning.

In 2015 I would have been sure it was Republicans. But Trump caused a large realignment so not sure if that's still true given the working class moving to R, and the upper middle moving to D. So I'm now I'm going to go with Republicans, with very low confidence.
