just cause something is an ancient tradition practiced over hundreds of years by smart people does *not* mean it's right it's not very hard to think of many worldviews people intensely studied and defended through the ages that turned out to be completely untrue or cruel

Some people on here have this bizarre misunderstanding of natural selection as something that happened thousands of years ago and isn't relevant because surviving is easier now. No, selection happens on every level and acts on everything constantly.

It doesn't even have to be selection of the individuals. Ideas and preferences are often exclusionary. If enough people abandon certain ideas for others, you certainly should be able to infer that something is drawing them to the others without specifically knowing what.

If the old tradition died out, then there was something that led to that as well using the same logic. I'm not in the trad camp myself, since where we were led to where we are, so going back would just be a reinactment leading to our current problems.
