Top 1% includes a lot of people though, why not the top 0.1%? That should surely be enough. I think I did the math before and only redistributing the wealth of Jeff Bezos would radically transform the entire world.

10% worldwide is far too broad for me to answer yes. my cursory googling says that would be anybody making $122k or more. They all have to live off $1200 a year afterward?

Redistributing income doesn't create wealth. That would just cause massive inflation. It's not about the money, it's about productivity. You need more goods/services for all those suddenly richer people to purchase. Lower incentives to produce and you actually increase poverty.

Depending on details of the magic, that button either causes everyone to abandon existing currencies and make new ones, or destroys the world. 1% of a 90th percentile income is below subsistence, and nearly all industrial capacity routes through high-income people.

God I don't want to because I can't really live on 1% of my salary. But it also would pretty much end global poverty so I kind of feel like I would have to.
