Ppl who are real into astrology/conspiracies/woo beliefs *really* trigger me, but it's not because of the beliefs themselves, it's what it indicates about the person. To me, it implies a profound lack of curiosity in checking to see if their beliefs are true. 1/

I have a huge problem with woo too, but the assumption that "a lack of skepticism for woo implies a general lack of skepticism" is likely untrue (even by and large). Could you imagine an astrologer regularly challenging their beliefs about religion or societal norms? I could.

I think people have the ability to set aside their skepticism for some comforting beliefs, and that most people do use this ability. The belief that someone can only be entirely rational or entirely irrational is actually detrimental to the skeptic cause.
