Yep. Huge part of the game is optimising guest pathing, especially the harder scenarios that come prebuilt with "mistakes".

i played roller coaster tycoon a long time ago, and I tried one of the newer games but couldn't get into it. Is there a good newer version?

Rollercoaster Tycoon Classic released in 2017 is a remaster combining the best elements of RCT 1 and 2 with modern fixes, which were the best in the series by sales and imo. Then there is Open RCT2, which is an open source community project to make the original RCT 2 the best.

Parkitect is probably the best theme park architect and operator simulator, RCT and Planet Tycoon are less in depth
