maybe wait until the fda gets off its ass and stops keeping life-saving drugs illegal for longer than necessary first, but at that point... what else are we waiting for? i don't want to do this forever.

there unfortunately was never a "let it burn through" option with this. both natural and vaccine based immunity is short-lived. there were two options in December '19-early february '20 and they were "stamp it out" and "let it become endemic". the world chose the latter.

I'm either very lockdown (mandatory vax and pay everyone to stay home for a month to bring the numbers down) or mild let it burn (keep mask restrictions for essential businesses, otherwise lift restrictions). Either fix the problem entirely or let people make their own choices.

Having spent several months in Taiwan during the pandemic, what’s going on in my home country (the US) makes me very sad to watch. Unfortunately I have absolutely zero confidence at this point in the American public or government to achieve a good outcome here.

My answers would be very different now compared to a year ago. Then it would have been on the lockdown side. Now it’s more in the let it burn side. At this point, if you’re not vaxxed, if you’re not masking, etc. you’re probably not going to. You’ve chosen your consequence.

If we had all gotten a grand or two to stay in the house for two weeks when this shit started we wouldn't be running out of Greek letters two years later

It's unclear whether I should answer this contingently (based on the current state of things) or as a general policy. Contingently, now that vaccines are widely available and have been for some time, I'm much less keen on lockdowns than I was in the earlier stages.

I'm for super-strong vaccine mandates, mask mandates in crowded/hard-to-avoid places like public transit, and zero other closures or gathering limits. Hard to place that on your scale, but I voted 'mild let it burn'
