The Bedia tribe in India apparently survives entirely off prostitution; the women are the breadwinners, and they train their daughters up to become prostitutes themselves, and having no daughters is considered "unlucky".

as... maybe gross as it is, I suspect the extreme desexualization of post puberty pre-18yo girls is a pretty new thing. For most of history it was more normalized and people of that age probably didn't register it as traumatic
