My landlord lived in this house before me for years; he's nice, but really weird. 1. He TILED OVER the window in the bathroom - just the inside, you can still clearly see the window from the outside of the house. I asked why, he said "for privacy". He has blinds everywhere else.

2. Before I moved in, he had a bunch of chairs all over - way too many, kind of uncomfortable looking, lined up in awkward positions in corners. He said he liked creating various seating areas. I asked if he threw a lot of parties, he said "no, I've never had anyone over"

3. He installed a 2nd bathroom - not on the other side of the house that needs it, but DIRECTLY NEXT TO THE ORIGINAL BATHROOM. The bthrm is so small the sink pushes you to the side when you sit down, but at least now you can make eye contact with your buddy when you both poo
5. He had the entire house fumigated before I moved in despite repeatedly insisting he'd "never seen an insect in the house"

6. He didn't ask for proof of anything when I applied for the house. No proof of income, no background check, no proof of employment, nothing.

7. Several outlets in key places have "DOESN'T TRIP" or "DOES TRIP" signs stickered on top of them. He said "I don't know what it means, they were there when I bought he place, I've never plugged anything into those

8. My first week here, I asked him when trash day was and where to find the trash bin to put on the street - he didn't know which day, and there was no trash bin at all. "I never generated any trash," he said.

9. Almost all the windows in this house are stuck shut, he clearly never opened them. I live in *Austin*, where the weather is amazing for half the year.

Its cheaper to build a bathroom next to an existing one (or the kitchen) because otherwise you need to run plumbing a long distance through parts of the house that weren't intended to house plumbing.

There are a lot of warning signs about the condition of the house here. Shared vent stacks, electrical wiring that is linked to circuits that cannot handle the load, and DIY home improvement stuff that may or may not be done by a professional.
