If you didn't know, Twitter is the last big platform that allows sex workers to openly advertise as sex workers, (although Twitter does search ban them). I really, really hope the new CEO doesn't fuck over sex workers. This is all we have left.

Serious question: how large an impact does advertising have on your bottom line (heh)? Isn't sex work resilient in the face of anti-sex authoritarianism?

for onlyfans, if I were unable to advertise on sites outside of onlyfans itself, my income would probably drop at least 90%

There’s no network effect because it’s basically a payment portal, with no discovery of new content built into it. I mean, there is for saved payment info and client trust, but not for building your fandom.

It’s pretty wild how little networking there is on OF. There’s no front page promo, no “top 10” banner ads, no AMAs etc. All advertising things I expected to be there just aren’t.

I think this was to avoid the possibility of “promoting” problematic content. Most attacks on sites like PornHub relied on cherry-picking weird words in tags and publicly available videos to create a narrative of the site as “bad.” OF wanted to be a neutral processor basically

I also suspect it might be somewhat intentional - if you take away internal site promotion, every person working on the site is forced to go to other sites to promote their onlyfans, and you get a massive wave of organic advertising that OF doesn't have to pay for

i mean, it's absolutely intentional, but i'm not sure relying on other sites is ideal for them either. I really think they're operating out of fear on that one, with constraints that wouldn't be in place if it wasn't 'adult.' still, others like patreon also hardly promo on site
