Ah, gotcha. I have read the essay and I read that paragraph again for reference. Being overly suspicious of overwise good-seeming people can indeed be pathological and/or harmful. I think, though, that like most social tech it can hardly be helped that it is sharp on both sides.

I didn't know how to write a post in a way that clearly couldn't be weaponized, but I also didn't want to *not* write the post. I'd like to figure out how to make the protective ideas less dangerous.

I am glad you wrote it in any case. Hoo, yeah. "How to make the protective ideas less dangerous" is a hard problem. One way of framing (heh) the difficulty is that protective and dangerous are here referring to the same salient function(s) applied differently EG sharp blades cut
