"How would I feel about [topic] if I moved to an alien planet where my role and the social norms were utterly, completely different?" is maybe the most common calibration question I ask myself
How would I feel if I moved to a planet where
*I was in the bottom 1% IQ
*Everything I valued about myself most was a mundane, easy skill for others
*Having sex with kids was a default routine under the belief it's healthy for them
These types of questions are my most constant
What about a world where you have complete control over your body's appearance? Or read each other's minds? Or you're the most evil person by comparison? Or you can clone yourself? Who would I become if the world around me transformed in comparison? What of me would be left?
Identity is difference. Difference is identity.
- Alan Watts
If you change everyone else, you change your identity because the difference is now different.
If you were a clone and the original Aella was currently on a trip around the Galaxy to find the answers to these questions, galactic regulations would prevent me from telling you. (I could, however drop a hint like this tweet, pretending to be joking...)
