"How would I feel about [topic] if I moved to an alien planet where my role and the social norms were utterly, completely different?" is maybe the most common calibration question I ask myself
How would I feel if I moved to a planet where
*I was in the bottom 1% IQ
*Everything I valued about myself most was a mundane, easy skill for others
*Having sex with kids was a default routine under the belief it's healthy for them
These types of questions are my most constant
What about a world where you have complete control over your body's appearance? Or read each other's minds? Or you're the most evil person by comparison? Or you can clone yourself? Who would I become if the world around me transformed in comparison? What of me would be left?
The scientist in me says you’d bring your biases to the table and demand rational explanations with evidence before being able to process the worldview or allow it to inform yours. Kind of like how we handle such differences of belief in the world around us in the here and now.
#1: don't know. Depends on how it impacts the way all those smarter-than-me-people treat me, I guess, but I don't think I'd like it very much.
#2: that planet is a really disturbing place. Vacation there might be fun, living? Not so much, although... hm... not sure.
