I don't know when it happened, but at some point in the last few years I stopped believing in democracy as an ideal form of governance. It likely was a vital step in social evolution, but now it feels broken and outdated.

Terrible form of government. Also essentially the best we’ve got at this time. I do think a parliamentary form might address some of the polarization we have in the USA, but parliamentary government brings other problems.

I think we should give democracy a try. We could limit the rate @ which we extract fossil fuels so that we don't exceed what most people think is acceptable
We could promote sustainability by charging fees to pollute or deplete resources, then end poverty by sharing fee proceeds

The first step for me was seeing the Obama platform I was so initially excited about devolve into politics as usual.
Then it just took looking at the shittiness of literally any government program as a young adult.
Trust in open source software and the free market over people.
