this is sort of what I mean; people usually are dishonest in this way when there's social pressure not to acknowledge your true feelings. They're lying to themselves. Tbf I do admit I think the other races would likely be dishonest too given social pressure

I think social pressure influences feelings. If you take a population of blue and green Smurfs and tell them that a) a priori, both colours are equal and b) systemically, the blue Smurfs are oppressors and the green ones victims, they will start to believe it. Even if it's true.
