There's no way people are doing this. I refuse to believe this is real beyond this person.

I don't understand, is this bad? Ot seems reasonable for me to ask for $ for doing things they don't want to do?

As a tenured professor, scholarship and mentorship are one of the things you are specifically paid to do by your salary.
It's as if I requested $5 to see students during office hours for my classes.

Oh but I thought the tweet specified not at their school. I figured if your school is paying you a salary it's not to mentor students from other schools?

In a literal sense it's not, but you're beeen paid as a scholar for your academic body of work, not for teaching classes.
The stuff you do with your consulting does not pertain to the job, but now you're taking a side hustle of consulting industry and bringing it to main hustle.

I don't think I understand. is it in the payment contract to teach other students?

No, it does not say specifically and literally in the contract that you must respond to grad students from other universities and not ask them to pay a fee to engage you.
But if you're reading into it on this literal of a level, quite frankly you're just not going to get it.

I'm on autism spectrum and have no experience with academia at all so all this is weird and not intuitive. I wouldn't like a job where I was expected to follow unwritten rules, personally
