There's no way people are doing this. I refuse to believe this is real beyond this person.

I don't understand, is this bad? Ot seems reasonable for me to ask for $ for doing things they don't want to do?

As a tenured professor, scholarship and mentorship are one of the things you are specifically paid to do by your salary.
It's as if I requested $5 to see students during office hours for my classes.

In a literal sense it's not, but you're beeen paid as a scholar for your academic body of work, not for teaching classes.
The stuff you do with your consulting does not pertain to the job, but now you're taking a side hustle of consulting industry and bringing it to main hustle.

I think part of your job as a scholar is to engage with other scholars - which include graduate students. You can of course refuse, but it seems weird to charge for discussion about ideas when that's what scholars do. Discussion would be different from presenting your work

Academic networks are global - my students get advice from colleagues at other universities, and I do the same for students at other universities - it's a courtesy - nobody's charging $500/hour - time is the challenge
