I was trying to figure out a good estimate of total prostitutes in the US; general estimates are really vague or based off of outdated information. BUT: I know how many women were arrested for prostitution in 2017, and I know the % of escorts who reported arrest on my survey.

Are the people responding to your survey more likely to be a particular type? - i.e. maybe a disproportionate amount of full time escorts vs girls with pimps, trafficked foreign girls etc.. Also IIRC one of the freakonomics books mentioned part timers/seasonal workers.

If my sample is higher end girls with lower rates of arrest, then that would indicate there's even fewer total escorts than 216k

Some possible issue though - the part time/seasonal workers might have a higher pro-rata risk but lower annual risk than the higher end girls in your survey. Also some aspects are geographically concentrated, are there areas where it is decriminalised or even legal?
