Lots of medicine is unnecessary theater, you could probably do a lot of the more common diagnostic/treatment stuff with not a ton of training. Most of the time doctors are not magicians, and a lot of their seemingly wise precautions are really from training in a paranoid system

As a general rule, I take much higher risks than doctors recommend, because their risk tolerance is soooo low and the benefits from experimenting outweigh the increased chance of side effect

(Ofc I don't mean like... go smoke a pack of cigarettes a day, there are in fact some things where the risk more clearly outweighs the reward, actually go look at the risk yourself and decide if it's worth it for you)

100%. And a system made paranoid by money from pharmaceutical companies. I know cause my family works in medicine and we used to go on holiday trips paid by Pfizer as a kid.

Most health problems come down to diet and lifestyle choices, and med school doesn't require a single course in nutrition.
I saw doctors for years for myriad problems that ultimately all came down to food sensitivities I figured out on my own. No doctor ever suggested allergies.

I think much of doctors' behavior can be better understood when you realize they deal with patients that are on average not that smart (and circumstances often additionally limit a patient's cognitive abilities).

Traditional medicine treats the symptoms to keep you ill, prescribing drugs that make the rich, richer.
Holistic medicine looks for the root cause to CURE you but, man! If you're healthy, you are not making them $$$$.

True. Diagnostic heuristics in medicine are not excellently honed in medical school. Many people with complex disabilities are far better at diagnosing themselves. It does require a certain objectivity, though, not to let mortal fears cloud your judgment.

It only takes you sending one atypical chest pain home showing back up to the ER with a massive MI to start being a lot more paranoid.

This is definitely spoken like someone who doesn't know what they don't know. Medicine is so broad and complex that you often can't make a good diagnosis without a good doctor. It's why webmd always thinks you have cancer and Instagram thinks all cures are dietary.
