Maybe rightists have the "future rich person syndrome" where they defend rich ppl cause maybe it'll be them one day, but if so then leftists have "future poor person syndrome" where they resist acknowledging wealth earned by hard work and ingenuity because that's impossible

I'm a Leftist who grew up rich because my father was a brilliant scientist whose hard work and inventions brought him wealth. His wealth actually did not come from the exploitation of surplus labor value. However, this is extremely rare.

how rare is it though? Consider that half of the Fortune 500 are self-made

🤣 the funny thing is how little most Americans appreciate that we *are* the rich... if we actually cared about the global poor we would open the borders! Hunger comes from local dysfunction but also from int'l refusal to allow economic refugees to choose a better govt.

I have yet to see someone ultra wealthy actually work for most of that money. Hard work and ingenuity never made someone a billion dollars. Taking advantage of people did.

All success is a combination of talent, hard work, and luck. But having the dedication to work hard is a form of talent, and being born with talent is just luck.

Everyone should have that though. "How should we set up society, assuming I were to come upon hard times in 15 years." Sounds like a good and more realistic perspective.

i saw an interesting exchange w a bunch of emergent middle class flks in india, who'd probably in the bottom half (quarter?) of the US wealth scale, saying things like – "we don't defend billionaires bc we expect to become them, but bc they make affordable products for us"

Nah. Self-interest in voting is a complex topic but in sum it's a weak influence. Leftists typically have in common that they are external control ideology, meaning they believe other people's stations are attributable more to luck.

Its not that they imagine themselves as future rich people, its that they don't envy rich people. They do not begrudge those that create things and create wealth, in fact they respect it. They hate those that believe they are owed something for doing nothing.
