As I've risen in profile, I might have predicted I would be less dependent on the approval of friends, but I think it's going the opposite way; I increasingly am relying on them for a sense of safe emotional stability I needed less of before

Your people keep you grounded, they can pull you back when needed and lift you up when needed. Nothing is ever as good or bad as it seems. We need people in our life that remind us of that.
