Is a child's IQ a good indicator of future success? If not, what is better?

No way— IQ tests are pseudoscientific nonsense. You can study for an IQ test and get a higher score than if you came in unprepared. Socioeconomic status of the parents is probably the best way to assess a kid’s overall chances of future success (however we define it).
