What are some theories about why trans discourse in particular seems so uncompromising and all-or-nothing? I have 2, but not super confident in either.

Because trans identity depends on other people agreeing to dance the dance. This is less true for other identities. This causes intense vitriol at anyone who suggests not dancing the dance.
