i suspect my (and mebbe others?) sense of "romantic butterflies" comes from capturing the attention of a really high SMV mate compared to the previous range of your mate options, even if it doesn't 'feel' like this from the inside.

It’s an interesting idea though I think for myself, I’d disagree. The reason being, I’ve had encounters where I did not hold someone in very high ‘SMV’ esteem when we first met, and was then later surprised when some action on their part put me into that ‘butterfly’ headspace.

ive had a similar experience that in hindsight i think was a SMV thing! its possible our details were in fact meaningfully different but also possibly not
