Is this correct? If you get banned on a dating app, can you not just create a new profile? I'm not sure myself.

Interesting, this is news to me, so good to know. I did a search, and this is one possible mechanism, at least on iOS devices:

It's a persistent device-specific identifier that is supposed to be used for advertising, but could be used to ban devices.

I can't check this, but on Android they might be using a device ID that is reset when the device is wiped:

So Android + wipes might be better than burner phones.
